We take a holistic approach to your health and wellness. We start with a detailed chiropractic examination. During the examination we measure your range of motion, perform orthopedic tests, and conduct muscle testing. During a muscle test Dr. Inman applies light pressure to your muscle and asks you to resist her pressure. She is not testing for brute strength. What she is looking for is reaction time and any delay, lag or shakiness in the muscle.
This type of muscle testing is a skill she developed through their training as an Applied Kinesiologist. When the doctor finds a weak muscle she thinks about what nerve root talks to that muscle and where the nerve originates at the spinal level.
When there is a misalignment in the spine the signal traveling down the nerve may have interference… static on the line so to speak. The purpose of a chiropractic adjustment is to remove that interference. So, after tracing the nerve to the spinal level the doctor makes a specific chiropractic adjustment at that nerve level.
The adjustment is either done by hand or by a gentle instrument called an adjustor, similar to an activator. Once the adjustment is complete Dr. Inman rechecks the weak muscle. If the muscle is strong, the adjustment was successful. If the muscle remains weak, the area needs to be re-evaluated. Muscles can be weak for other reasons such as myofascial tension, nutritional deficiencies, or stress.
This is what sets Dr. Inman apart. She keeps digging until she figures out what is at the root of your issue and with muscle testing we have a way to check our work. We offer many complementary services including functional medicine, nutritional counseling, and supplements.
